Adam M. Hyde

Adam Hyde is the Director of Highway and Transportation Safety Programs at the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety (NUCPS). In this role, he oversees the development and delivery of the Center’s crash investigation and reconstruction curriculum, manages a national network of expert instructors and adjunct faculty, and leads program development, instructor training, and strategic business initiatives supporting roadway safety education.

An ACTAR-accredited Traffic Accident Reconstructionist, Adam has completed more than 3,000 hours of specialized training and is recognized for his work in crash reconstruction, technical consulting, and expert witness testimony in serious and fatal collision cases. He currently serves as Administrator for the Accreditation Commission for Traffic Accident Reconstruction (ACTAR). He previously served as Vice Chair of the ACTAR Governing Board of Directors, where he also chaired the Grading Committee, and he serves as Vice President of the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists (NAPARS).

Adam brings more than 25 years of law enforcement experience to his work in crash investigation and professional training. He is a State of Illinois Crash Reconstruction Specialist, Lead Homicide Investigator, and Truck Enforcement Officer. In 2024, he retired as Commander of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT), where he led more than 60 investigators from 37 municipalities in the investigation of serious and fatal traffic collisions. In addition to his work at Northwestern, Adam provides consulting services in crash investigation and reconstruction through Cooper Barrette Consulting.

Adam studied engineering and holds a degree in law enforcement administration. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Learning and Organizational Change at Northwestern University, with a focus on leadership, professional education, and organizational development, which will be completed this year.
