M. Tharon Dukes

M. Tharon Dukes retired from the Georgia State Patrol with 30 years of creditable service in 2012. He began his career in 1984 and graduated the 64th GSP Trooper School in 1990. Mr. Dukes began his advanced training in the area of accident investigation and reconstruction a short time later. Of more than 4750 hours of advanced training, Mr. Dukes has received over 1700 hours of academic instruction related directly to accident reconstruction.
Mr. Dukes has received certificates in commercial motor vehicle, motorcycle, pedestrian/bicycle, and train crash investigation. He is a certified forensic mapping specialist and a former member of the Society of Forensic Mapping Specialists. Mr. Dukes is a POST certified instructor having taught accident investigation at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center to new recruits and veteran Troopers alike. Mr. Dukes is an original member of the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team and upon his retirement, held the rank of Captain supervising the Georgia State Patrols 5 SCRT teams located throughout the State of Georgia. Throughout is tenure with SCRT, Mr. Dukes was tasked with the investigation, reconstruction, and prosecution of 1st and 2nd degree vehicular homicide cases.
Mr. Dukes is considered an expert in the field of traffic crash investigation and reconstruction and has been recognized as an expert in State and Superior Courts throughout the State of Georgia.
In addition to his law enforcement training and experience, Mr. Dukes received a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2016. Mr. Dukes also holds an Associate’s Degree in Engineering from Gainesville State College, as well as a 3D Animation Specialist Certificate from Central Georgia Technical College. Mr. Dukes was a 1984 graduate of Stephens County High School and currently resides in Dalton, Georgia.
