Marzieh Mostafavizadeh Ardestani
ACTAR Number 4142
Dr. Ardestani holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering, a Master of Science degree in Control Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with special emphasis on human biomechanics. Her Ph.D. research focused on the use of experimental and computational biomechanics in the field of orthopedic surgery, with a specific emphasis on the design and implantation of orthopedic implants for the knee, hip, and spine. Following successful completion of her post-doctoral training in orthopedic biomechanics and sport biomechanics, Dr. Ardestani joined Indiana University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor where her research focused on traumatic spinal cord injury, brain injury, and gait biomechanics. In addition to the field of biomechanics, Dr. Ardestani’s expertise extends to the fields of medical devices, device failure, hospital equipment and medical malpractice.
Furthermore, Dr. Ardestani has extensive experience in computer simulations, computational modeling, and numerical analyses of the human body to investigate joint contact mechanics, injury causation, and failure mechanisms. Dr. Ardestani has additional expertise in experimental biomechanics and in the use of various devices such as infrared cameras, accelerometers, and force sensors to quantify human movement. Her research achievements have been published in over 20 peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented at international conferences in North America and Asia.
Dr. Ardestani is a Certified Accident Reconstructionist (ACTAR #4142). In the field of accident reconstruction, Dr. Ardestani has special interests in commercial vehicles, vehicle restraint systems, and nighttime visibility. She has continued to add to her education and training through successful completion of courses such as, CDR Technician course, Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation, Commercial Vehicle Crash Investigation Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, and Human Factors, to name a few.
As a forensic consultant, Dr. Ardestani’s primary areas of practice are as follows:
Commercial vehicle accidents
Medical device failure
Injury biomechanics and occupant kinematics
Slip, trip, and falls
Incidental injuries and worker compensation claim
