Bill Wright was a career law enforcement officer prior to his retirement in 2006. His law enforcement career was spent as an accident, and Traffic Homicide Investigator. He received his initial accident investigation training from the Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM). This training was followed up with a Mechanical Engineering degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1999. His degree was obtained concurrently with his law enforcement positions.

Since his retirement from law enforcement Bill has operated Florida Reconstruction, a private consulting firm, in Key Largo, Florida. A significant part of that business employs the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval Tool. He continues to work part-time as an IPTM adjunct instructor.
